Princess Nabila Phinisi

Komodo family boat trip, three generations

Updated 12 October 2026

Princess Nabila suits a family or reunion of up to 25 when the oldest guests take the three main-deck cabins, which need no stairs to the restaurant. Children under 3 travel free. A 3D2N charter for 20 costs IDR 4,180,000 (≈ USD 256) each. The sun deck has a low rail and no shade.

Count the stairs between your youngest and your oldest

There is no lift on this boat. Three levels are joined by stairs: the main deck with the restaurant, the upper deck with four cabins, and the sun deck on the roof. Walk each family member through a day in your head and mark where the stairs fall.

Three cabins are on the main deck: Jawa at the stern, and Papua and Maluku forward of the restaurant. From any of them to breakfast there is no stair at all. Put grandparents and anyone with a bad knee there. Jawa is a master cabin with a private stern balcony. It sits beside the galley and its door is inside the restaurant, so our rule of thumb, not a measurement, puts it as the noisiest cabin. Papua and Maluku cost the sea-view fare.

Four cabins are upstairs: Sumbawa at the stern, Flores amidships, and Sulawesi and Bali. By the same rule of thumb the upper deck moves more in a swell and hears the engine less.

A guest who cannot take stairs reaches the restaurant, the main deck and a main-deck cabin, but not the upper deck or the roof. Say so when you send the head count.

Four in a cabin, five in two

Each cabin has a double bed and a single, a pull-out lower bed in all but Jawa, so it sleeps three in fixed berths. A fourth guest takes an extra bed. The Flores suite is the exception and stops at three. Seven cabins sleep 21 in fixed berths, and with extra beds the boat takes 25.

A family of four fits in one cabin. A family of five takes two, with three in one and two in the other. Each cabin has its own bathroom, so night trips to the toilet do not cross a deck.

On the open trip the fare is per person for two sharing, and the third or fourth guest in a cabin pays the extra-bed rate, which the 2027 fare table prints and which is quoted with the booking for departures to the end of 2026. A child under 3 sails free, accompanied by a parent or guardian. On a charter the head count sets the band, so send every child's age with the head count and the quote matches the band and the cabins.

The roof, the rail and the buffet

The sun deck is where a family spends the evening. It is green artificial turf from end to end, with around a dozen bean bags and wooden benches, and two floodlights on the mast. The rail around the edge is low timber, so children on the roof need an adult beside them.

There is no shade on the turf. In the middle of the day the roof is a place for a short rest in a hat, not for a long afternoon. Use the restaurant, which has air conditioning and windows that open, for the hottest hours, and the roofed balcony of Sumbawa or Flores if your family has one.

Meals are a self-serve buffet, which suits children who eat little and grandparents who eat slowly. In the footage from May and June 2025 fish, squid and mantis shrimp went on a charcoal grill on deck, and the juice in the tall glasses was red dragon fruit. Treat that as one trip's table and not as a fixed menu.

Orange life rings hang on the rails, at least six in the footage. Boarding is by a wooden platform with a ladder on the starboard side. Put a child who is not a confident swimmer in a life jacket whenever they are in the water or on the tender.

Which stops suit a family, and which need a decision

Read the stops by effort rather than by fame.

  • Kelor: the hill takes 15 to 30 minutes and is steep, with a view over the bay at the top. Sturdy shoes help.
  • Padar: 25 to 45 minutes up a loose, steep path. Nobody is obliged to climb, and the viewpoint is the point, not a beach.
  • Komodo island: a walk with a park ranger of 45 to 120 minutes, with little shade. The dragons are wild and sightings are never guaranteed.
  • Pink Beach and Kanawa: shallow reef close to the shore, an easy first snorkel.
  • Manta Point: a strong current, for confident swimmers.

On the open trip the park quota picks one stop from each pair: Padar or Gili Lawa, then Komodo village or Rinca. On a charter the stops are agreed in the quote, and the captain still sets the order on the day. The route pages list the stops.

A child or a grandparent who stays on the boat at a stop needs one adult of your own party with them. Agree who that is before the stop and not at the ladder.

What a family group pays

A reunion fits a charter, because the family arrives as one block of 16 to 25 and wants one programme. On a 3D2N charter a family of 16 pays IDR 5,220,000 (≈ USD 320) each, a family of 20 pays IDR 4,180,000 (≈ USD 256) and a family of 25 pays IDR 3,840,000 (≈ USD 236). The group charter rates page prints the whole-boat price in each band.

These figures leave out park tickets, which are paid online in each visitor's name, a guide, photographs and tips. Below 15 guests the open trip costs less per head, so a small family books cabins on it. It sails every Monday and Friday, with the cabins priced per person.

If the youngest child is a baby or the oldest guest cannot manage a tender landing, choose a day trip from the harbour for the family, or choose this boat's full-day charter, which in our planning sample is back in Labuan Bajo before sunset. A night on board is not the plan for everyone.

Send the head count, the ages and the dates, and we reply with the cabins and a cost per head.

FAQ

Where do grandparents sleep if they cannot manage stairs?

In Jawa, Papua or Maluku, the three main-deck cabins. From each, the restaurant is on the same level, and each has a private bathroom. The upper deck and the sun deck are reached only by stairs, so a guest who cannot climb sees the restaurant, the main deck and the stern balcony of Jawa.

Is the sun deck safe for a toddler?

It has a low timber rail, open sky and no shade, so a toddler needs an adult beside them at all times, in the sun and in the evening under the mast floodlights. A child under 3 sails free, in a parent's or guardian's care. Keep the roof for the evening and spend the middle of the day in the air-conditioned restaurant.

How do five relatives share the cabins?

Two cabins: three in one and two in the other. Each cabin has a double bed and a single, and a third guest in the same cabin pays the extra-bed rate on the open trip. A cabin is sold for a minimum of two, so the second cabin carries two fares.

Are there life jackets in children's sizes?

Life jackets, life rings and a life raft are on the boat's printed list. Sizes are not printed. Ask us about child sizes before the deposit, and bring your own child's jacket if the answer is unclear.

Does everyone have to climb Padar?

No. The climb to the viewpoint takes 25 to 45 minutes. Parts of the path are loose and steep. A guest who stays aboard needs one adult of your own party with them. Agree that before the stop.
